Thompsons, Texas is located in eastern Fort Bend County, twelve miles southeast of Richmond, on Farm Road 2759 and the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe line. Around 1830, Robert E. Bohannon went to Texas from Alabama and received a land grant as part of a program where the Mexican government hired empresario Stephen F. Austin to recruit settlers. This marked the beginning of settlement in the area. Following Bohannon's passing, his widow wed Hiram Thompson, who gave the town his name. In 1879, it was established as a station on the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe. In 1888, it received a post office. Thompsons was incorporated in 1979. In 2020, the population numbered 173.
